Jonathan BatistaJonathan Batista began his training at Alice Arja School for Dance in Brazil. In 2008, he was awarded a three year full tuition scholarship to study under Jane Hackett’s directorship at English National Ballet School. During his time in England, he was coached by Ivan Dinev, Cynthia Harvey, Rudolfo Castellanos, Orlando Salgardo, Alexandre Proia, Gary Avis, Michael Coleman, and Anya Evans, as his private coach and mentor. With English National Ballet School, Batista created a role in Michael Corder’s L’Arlesienne and performed leading roles in Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs (Blue Boy), Jorge Garcia’s Majisimo, George Balanchine’s Who Cares?, and Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon (Des Grieux Variation) and also guest performed at The Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theater.
Upon his graduation in 2011, Batista joined Miami City Ballet under the direction of Edward Villella where his repertoire included, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker andLa Valse,Marius Petipa’s Giselle and Coppélia and the world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s Symphonic Variations. In 2012, he joined The National Ballet of Canada under The Royal Bank of Canada apprenticeship, performing in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice in Wonderland, James Kudelka’s The Nutcracker, John Neumeier’s Nijinsky, Rudolf Nureyev’s The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote (grand pas de deux) on tour throughout Canada.Jonathan Batista
Batista guest performed for the Cia de Ballet do Rio de Janeiro, where his repertoire includes Giselle (Hilarion), The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Florimund), in Le Corsaire(Conrad’s Slave, Birbanto), Swan Lake Act II (Prince Siegfried), La Bayadère (Solor), and Michel Fokine’s La Sylphide (The Poet). Batista was awarded 1st place at Danza America 2008 in Cordoba, Argentina for his performance of Don Quixote, and was a finalist at The Prix de Lausanne 2010. In 2013, he won 2nd place at The World Ballet Competition in Orlando, FL and has appeared in galas in South America and Canada.
Batista joined Boston Ballet for the 2013-2014 season. His repertoire includes Golden Idol for Florence Clerc’s La Bayadere; Pastorale Pas de Trois in Mikko Nissinen’s production of The Nutcracker; The Principal Role in Harald Lander’s Etudes; Emerald’s pas de trois in George Balanchine’s Jewels; Pas de Cinq and Neapolitan Pas de deux in Miko Nissinen’s Swan Lake; Principal Role in Val Caniparoli’s Lady Of the ShubhpujaCamelia as Saint Gauden. In 2015 Batista Joined Cincinnati Ballet, as a Soloist, he performed Principal roles such as Gustave in Val Caniparoli’s Lay of the Camelia, and created role for World Premieres by Viktor Plotnikov and Ma Cong.
In 2016 he was invited to join Milwaukee Ballet as a Principal Dancer, where he expanded his Repertoire performing in Principal Roles in Kathy Possyn’s Scheherazade as Moon Prince & August Bournonvile’s La Sylphide as well as creating pas de deux and solos in World Premieres by Enrico Morelli and Timothy O’Donell. In 2017 Batista joins Oklahoma City Ballet as a Principal Dancer under the vision of Artistic Director Robert Mills.
