Born in 1976, in Havana, Cuba. Mayte Almeida immigrated to the United States where she started a career as an airplane mechanic. She began a serious art career in 1995 at the National Art School of San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba. She there learned to perfect her natural talent for painting and photography. Her expressive themes always related to nature. Eventually, she focused entirely wood sculpturing, using a chain saw to carve fun tiki forms. The Artist has been in several galleries throughout Key West and Islamorada, FL. She also has accomplished full recognition for her work in aviation by being featured in Woman in Aviation magazine and The Miami Herald.
Mayte Almeida continues her work with wood sculpting today in the Florida Keys; it is where she feels most connected with the spirit of Mother Nature.
