Theresa Lillian

Theresa LillianTheresa Lillian grew up in Brooklyn, NY in the 1960’s. It was a time of great conflict and change. She found an outlet to express what she was feeling through art. In school, teachers encouraged her to nurture her artistic talent. She continued her studies in college as her style developed. In 2001, her work was greatly affected by the World Trade Center attack. Her mom, other family members and friends were in the towers when they were struck. Luckily, they all survived. During those time of sadness and loss, she was renewed and inspired by the people who came to the rescue. They were people of all colors, religions and backgrounds.
They were united with one goal in mind – to help those in need. She began a series of paintings she calls the ‘faceless people’ as a tribute. The body of work was exhibited throughout the tri-state area and sold to collectors throughout the US and Asia. In 2010, Theresa moved to Arizona. She began exploring mixed media art often using non-traditional materials like coffee filters, joint compounds, hardware and metals. She was greatly inspired by Isaiah Zagar, one of the great influential artists of ‘assemblage.’ She had the opportunity to work with Isaiah in Philadelphia in 2011 and 2013. She recalls “It was one of the higlights of my life.” It was there that her love for mosaics was born.
Using found objects and discarded items that would otherwise wind up in the junk pile, Theresa LillianTheresa embraces the ‘green concept’ and creates one-of-a-kind works of art for the home and garden. Her latest project called “Tapestry” is to mosaic more than 16 block walls and pillars in her back yard approximately 1800 square feet. Each wall will tell a unique story and include work from visiting artists from the area and back east. Theresa Lillian truly believes art can be life-changing. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with her students. She recently designed a beautiful studio in her Phoenix home where she works and teaches.
