My name is Kali J. Hansen, formally known as Kali J. Dobson. I am a Voice and Piano Teacher, Singer, Songwriter and Contemporary Christian Recording Artist.
I have been singing all of my life. I have dreamed of being a Contemporary Christian Recording Artist from the age of 13. My favorite contemporaries are Sandi Patty and Amy Grant.
I studied at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. I continued my education with three years graduate work at Wichita State University while supporting myself as a Graduate Teachers Assistant teaching voice. I also won first place in the National Associates of Teachers of Singing Graduate Division in 1994.
While attending Friends, I was privileged to sing with the University choir ‘The Singing Quakers’. We traveled throughout the United States and Europe, performing at prestigious venues such as Westminster Abby, Carnegie Hall and the Worlds Fair in Vancouver Canada.
I maintain a full Voice and Piano Studio in my home in South Reno. I am blessed to work with students ages 5 to adults. I also enjoy helping with students with music composition and theory.
I have been teaching private voice and piano lessons for over 30 years. I live in Reno, NV. I am classically trained, and well versed in several styles of music. Such as: pop, musical theater, contemporary christian, blues and classical. I balance my lessons with strong technique and musical knowledge and lots of fun. I accept ages 5 and up, and levels of musicians.
I am also a singer/songwriter and working on my first Contemporary Christian Album.
I love to help my students compose their own music and record it as well.
I hold one large recital per year in the fall. I also offer my students more performing opportunities with more intimate “open-house” performances in my studio. This allows my students who experience stage fright an avenue to perform in a comfortable environment.
I enjoy recording my students and producing c.d.’s, video’s and other multi-media projects.
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Friends University, Wichita, KS.
I also completed three years of Master’s level work at Wichita State University, where I taught private voice instruction as a Graduate Teachers Assistant.
In 1995, I won the Senior Division of the National Association of Teacher’s of Singing.
