Maria’s work has always been inspired by events in her life and her love of nature. Based on her travels and photography, she transforms natural scenes into abstract compositions, focusing on the interplay of light, shadow, and time of day, as seen in the Waterscapes Series. Her Landscapes and Waterscapes series is primarily focused on endangered habitats, such as wetlands, vernal pools and marshes. Her Feminist Series express social and cultural concerns regarding women.
Her Toys and Games Series references vintage American board games and toys, with an unique twist, to the images we grew up with and continue to enjoy.
In addition to her paintings, Maria’s Artists’ Books express her social and political concerns in various book forms that are almost sculptural in form.
