Geraldine Arata is a 3rd generation San Franciscan. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from San Francisco State University and her Master Degree from the Academy of Art University San Francisco. Arata, along with her husband, John Pruett owned and operated Arata Fine Art Gallery on Columbus Ave., San Francisco from 2009 until 2012. Arata’s art is currently exhibited and represented by Art Obsession, Truckee, CA. and exhibited in New Orleans French Quarter for six years until The Steve Jarrett Gallery closed.Her art can be found at the Sweet Spot Gallery in San Francisco and the Little Art Shop in Benicia, CA. Arata currently resides in Benicia California with her husband John Pruett. Tours of her studio in Benicia, CA.are available by appointment. Arata is classically trained. Her medium of choice is oil paints on canvas. Her favorite subject matter is the portrait or figure. Arata has a strong connection to New Orleans and her figures are often in mystical and carnival settings. Arata’s first love is fine art, but she also has a passion for the decorative arts and crafts. Her new body of works is a marriage of the two genres. The figures are classically executed in oils, but enhanced with mixed medias, including molding pastes and foils.
